Before growing inside a polytunnel, my experience was that growing tomatoes on an allotment was always much more challenging and unreliable than growing at home. Tomato blight was the chief culprit.
Polytunnels make the whole experience much more reliable. Our first tomato was ripe at the end of June, and throughout this month we’ve been able to take home a kilo of tomatoes a week. They are wonderful served at room temperature with a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a light sprinkling of salt (as a treat!).
